The Age of Plastic is the debut album by the English new wave duo the Buggles, released on 10 January 1980 in Australia and 4 February in the United Kingdom. It is a concept album about the possible effects of modern technology. The title was conceived from the group's intention of being a "plastic group" and the album was produced in the wake of the success of their debut record, "Video Killed the Radio Star" (1979), which topped the UK Singles Chart.

The fun, quirky single "Video Killed the Radio Star" garnered The Buggles international attention in 1980, but it was just one of The Age of Plastic's fascinating, futuristic visions. From the title track's opening strains, Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes transform your living room into a world of Jetson-like proportions. It's a world, though, where technology is seen for what it is - full of both promise and frightening implications

This proved to be a very resonant message to listeners at the time
For me, The Age of Plastic by The Buggles fits into this latter category. I can honestly say that from the first listen, it was nothing but pure pleasure. The Buggles are a British band made up of singer/bass player/guitarist Trevor Horn and keyboardist Geoffrey Downes. The Age of Plastic is a futuristic concept album that demonstrates both an embrace of and a fear of technology. In fact, the album seems to have been strongly influenced by the music of Kraftwerk.
