Ursa Major is the fourth studio album by American rock band Third Eye Blind. Released on August 18, 2009 on the group's own Mega Collider label, Ursa Major was the group's first studio album in over six years. The first single from the album was "Don't Believe a Word", which debuted on the radio June 5, 2009. Work on Ursa Major began shortly after the release of Out of the Vein in 2003
When Third Eye Blind released Out of the Vein in 2003, they felt like post-grunge relics that refused to acknowledge their time had passed. Six years later, with Ursa Major in tow, they've waited out the fallow time, surfacing just when late-'90s alt rock nostalgia is beginning to bubble. Tellingly, TEB shuck much of the heavy, oppressive sobriety of Out of the Vein, replacing it with a touch of the fizzy, singsong hooks that made their debut a smash success.

Third Eye Blind continues their trend of Hey, track 2 sounds like a song by The Who with Don’t Believe a Word. The guitar lead-in sounds as much like Baba O’Riley as the previous album’s Blinded sounded like Pinball Wizard. It really comes to life on the album, showcasing Jenkins’ best vocals on this effort, especially in the song’s climax. The final two songs of Ursa Major, Dao of St. Paul and Monotov’s Private Opera (the teasing, Carnival Barker, notwithstanding), are also acoustic-driven, contrasting the electric-guitar of the opening tracks. Both feature choirs, which may turn off some with their big finishes, but they just seem to work here.
