Porter Ricks – Porter Ricks. Label: Mille Plateaux – MP CD 42. Format: CD, Album. After excellent "Biokinetics", second album disappointed me. They lost their unique style and tried to be nica" band. And that didn't work - this album has its high moments ("Spoiled", "Redundance 5") but in a whole is useless mix of very different tracks. Forget about it, listen to "Biokinetics" instead. Biokinetics is the first album by the electronic music duo of Thomas Köner and Andy Mellwig, under the name Porter Ricks. Issued in 1996, it was the first release on the Berlin-based Chain Reaction label. It is considered a classic within the dub techno genre. The album is made up of both tracks written for the album and singles previously released on Chain Reaction (such as a 12" including the track 'Port Gentil') in the mid 1990's.
The second Porter Ricks album, compiled from singles released after the duo left the Basic Channel fold, represents quite a change from their previous output. Unlike the sound of BioKinetics, Porter Ricks circa 1997 had virtually abandoned the scratchy, lo-fi take on ambient dub and techno championed by most Basic Channel groups. Instead, the album has a clean sound which enables the listener to hear the impeccable production which must have been included on previous releases but was simply unhearable

Named after a character on the '60s TV show Flipper, Porter Ricks specializes in subaquatic dub techno, providing the closest touchstone to the static hum and fuzzy beatwork of their quasi label-mates Basic Channel. A collaboration between ambient maestro Thomas Köner and beatmeister Andy Mellwig, the duo debuted with three 12-inches on the Berlin based Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction during 1995-96.
Super 8 footage shot in Saigon in 2010. Part of Cinema Super 8 episode 2. Porter Ricks track "Explore" is from their self-titled LP from 1997. The pacing of this song is hard to pin down but I like what you have done here with the double exposure and slow motion. I like how it gets progressively darker as well.
