Having successfully reworked the single Time Will Crawl from 1987’s Never Let Me Down for 2008’s iSelect compilation album, Bowie wrote in the sleeve notes for the latter, Oh, to redo the rest of the album. Sadly that never happened in his lifetime, but it was Mario McNulty who had recorded and mixed that new version of the song for David (it wasn’t called the ‘MM’ remix for nothing) and the same man has now created a brand new production of the whole album, with new instrumentation by Bowie collaborators Reeves Gabrels (guitar), David Torn (guitar), Sterling Campbell.

Bowie’s 1983 album Let’s Dance album sold a career-topping 10 million copies, transforming this former leper messiah into a stadium-rocking superstar. Nile Rodgers’s bright, disco-friendly production still divides fans, but the album endures thanks to its super-catchy singles and a handful of underrated gems, including the achingly lovely Without You and the funk-pop floor-stomper Shake It. Less than 18 months later, the Tonight album became Bowie’s first serious critical failure.

David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that later made him famous, such as the folk rock of "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

The tracklisting has been revealed for David Bowie: Loving The Alien (1983 – 1988), the fourth in a series of box sets spanning Bowie’s career from 1969 onwards. It also features a never before released live album recorded in Vancouver in 1983 on the Serious Moonlight tour, the vinyl debut of Glass Spider (Live In Montreal 1987) album and Dance – an album comprising 12 contemporaneous remixes some of which are appearing on CD and vinyl for the first time.

Glass Spider (Live From Montreal ’87). Every autumn since 2015, a new David Bowie career retrospective box set arrives. The apparent aim is an official release Bowie master narrative, in boxes sturdy enough to prop up a table. And the latest, Loving the Alien (1983-1988), is mass-consumption Bowie, the Man Who Sold (Himself To) the World. He was never more popular than in the period documented in these 11 discs (and 15 LPs): writing songs for kids’ movies, singing with Tina Turner for Pepsi, duetting with Mick Jagger for Live Aid, recording some of the biggest hits of his life.
