Progressive Rock legend King Crimson, feat. Robert Fripp (guitar) and - at that time in lineup no. 3 - Bill Bruford on drums, live at the German Beat Club in autumn of 1972! The song "Larks's Tongues" is taken from the album by the same title, recently released in March 1973. It features influences of Heavy Metal, improvisation and complex structure - typically for King Crimson at early 1970s. The album is also the first part of a trilogy, followed by "Starless and Bible Black" and "Red" (both 1974).

Larks' Tongues in Aspic is the fifth studio album by the English progressive rock group King Crimson, released on 23 March 1973 through Island Records. This album is the debut of King Crimson's fifth incarnation, featuring original member and guitarist Robert Fripp and new members John Wetton (vocals, bass), David Cross (violin, Mellotron), Jamie Muir (percussion), and Bill Bruford (drums).

I love 70's King Crimson, and as sacrilegious as this may sound, I think I would put "Frances the Mute" by The Mars Volta on par with any Crimson. I agree the production is a bit shoddy on certain tracks of this album, slightly obscuring the overall impact. Court is perfect though. 3 years ago. The addition of a violinist possibly inspired by Hot Rats and Mahavishnu? On Part 1, I hear Heart of the Sunrise for some reason.

Larks' Tongues in Aspic is King Crimson's second classic album. With 1969's groundbreaking In the Court of the Crimson King, the band basically invented progressive rock entirely, utilizing bandleader Robert Fripp's epic approach to song construction, which layered aggressive fretwork with propulsive rhythms, jazzy woodwinds and the most iconic Mellotron sound ever laid to tape. But just as soon as King Crimson birthed an exciting new musical movement, they retreated to the shadows
