The Rocky Horror Show is a musical with music, lyrics and book by Richard O'Brien. A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s, the musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, unveiling his new creation, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the. form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky Horror, complete "with blond hair and a tan". The show was produced and directed.

There was nothing in the write up to indicate this was a musical. I rang up and booked seats for that night solely for pleasure. Together we rocked with laughter and fell in love with the performance. I went straight backstage and said I'd like to invest in the show and produce and release a cast album.
When you think about that Cast Recording, infamously recorded in one day, is truely horrendous. The orchestrations are amteurish, and the performers are more enthusiastic then trained, but it's just fun, and I take it over any polsihed and finetuned or even complete recording ( a staple for me when it comes to cast recordings) anyday. You can just hear the relish with which the actors (including a pre-AB FAB Chris Malcolm) jump into their roles. The gusto with which the band attacks the songs make the polished movie versions seem tame.

Mars and watching a 1950s horror/science fiction film festival
