A–Z is the debut studio album by Colin Newman, lead singer for post-punk band Wire. It was released in October 1980, through record label Beggars Banquet. A–Z has been well received. Jason Parkes of Head Heritage wrote that it was "probably the best album between the first and second phases of Wire".

B1 entitled "Troiseme" on back cover. Recorded at Scorpio (London). Matrix, Runout (Side One etched, stamped): BEGA - 20 - A - 1 STERLING. Matrix, Runout (Side Two etched, stamped): BEGA - 20 - B - 1 STERLING.

Though it doesn't quite have the all-encompassing range of the connotative title, Colin Newman's first solo record features the wildly imaginative streak that makes Wire's first three records so endlessly exciting. In fact, A-Z was supposed to be his band's fourth record, but their label saw things differently. With Wire drummer Robert Gotobed on board and associate/producer Mike Thorne lending his keyboard skills, it doesn't sound far removed from an early Wire record at all. The absence of Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis doesn't impair Newman in the least.

Tuesday, 14 October 2014. Colin Newman ‎– "A-Z" (Beggars Banquet ‎– BEGA 20) 1980. I know we're straying off the true DIY path somewhat,but I feel obliged to push forward the three Colin Newman solo efforts. I first heard this album via one of those in-house BBC video's on the Old Grey Whistle Test, for the track B. I assumed that all the song titles would be letters from A to Z, but was disappointed to find that B was the sole appearance of the alphabet on the whole record. The songs however were as inventive and memorable as anything on 154, with B being one of the weakest.
