here’s an interview with our bassist Tony T. in regards to tonight’s Phoenix Theater benefit show. Interview: Tony Teixeira (Swingin' Utters, Western Addiction) Talks Benefit Show to Save The Phoenix Theater. Drive about 40 miles north of San Francisco, and you’ll find the town of Petaluma, CA. Nestled in the downtown region of the town is The Phoenix Theater, a local staple when it comes to live music in the area, particularly in the realms of punk and alternative rock.
San Francisco’s biggest and best punk band, the Swingin’ Utters, have returned to set the scene with their latest release, Hatest Grits: B-Sides and Bullshit. Where other bands have made a mockery of street punk with their corny gimmicks and posturing, the Utters deliver music brimming with the passion and desperation the genre is known for. It all started for the Utters back in 1995 with their first full length The Streets of San Francisco, which was released to critical acclaim. As a result, the band received two Bammy’s (Bay Area Music Awards), one of which for best debut album.
Swingin' Utters is an American punk rock band that formed in the late 1980s. Having begun in Santa Cruz, California, the band moved to San Francisco where they are now based. They have been signed to Fat Wreck Chords since 1996.
Swingin Utters have honed their formula by expanding their music. Definite winners all throughout. Even on slower or lighter tracks, when I think I might hit skip, they reel me in with a spark of something unique in tone or instrumentation. Being a band for almost 30 years, especially a punk band, the members have to learn to reach and stretch. Swingin Utters (started as Johnny Peebuck and The Swingin Utters) kicked their recorded career off in 1991. Many splits and EPs among 10-plus albums and myriad number changes, Swingin Utters thrive in 2018 with Peace and Love, again released on their home label of Fat Wreck Chrods. The first track starts with a double-time beat under a bouncing, jangling, bass-driven, punk track with a snotty vibe. It’s a motivating track, ready for a crowd, inciting frenzied pogos
