Blyth Power are a British rock band formed in 1983 by singer and drummer Joseph Porter, formerly of Zounds and The Mob. Blyth Power's music shows strong influences from punk rock and folk music, and the band members have described their sound as a cross between The Clash, Steeleye Span and The Rubettes
Formed in late 1983 by singer/drummer Joseph Porter, Blyth Power remains one of the most original and innovative bands around, and one of the prime features about the band is their all-consuming individuality. They have a strikingly identifiable and personalised sound built around Joseph’s epic songs, with their colourful personnel, exotic story-lines and crashing, impassioned choruses. Overriding everything is the breadth and content of the lyrics, which Mr Porter claims are his first love, and his most cherished care
2000 - The bricklayer's arm. Blyth Power, Bricklayer's Arms. It's Probably Going To Rain. the glorious vanquished.
It’s now four years since Blyth Power’s last album, On the Viking Station, came out with promises that it would form the first part of a trilogy. Since then the band have had their time taken up with various distractions such as doing acoustic sets in folk clubs and, more alarmingly, having babies. As a result gigs have been few and far between and there has been little news of parts two and three. So for Blyth fans the long-awaited release of Fall of Iron is a real cause for celebration .
