This album was recorded live at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 13, 1956 for the occasion of the Hoffnung Music Festival. This evening was devised by cartoonist Gerard Hoffnung, who asked several composers to write funny pieces of classical music. The success of this concert spawned two more sequels, though Hoffnung’s death at age 34 from a cerebral hemorrhage stopped the series' momentum. The Hoffnung Music Festival Concert Q&A.

Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Montreux Jazz Festival (1985). Video via The Blues Master on YouTube. Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan had his legend cemented by his untimely passing in 1990. But he wasn’t always so widely respected: The first time Vaughan and his band, Double Trouble, came to the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, his loud and unorthodox take on the blues was booed by some members of the audience. At the end of the concert, the Police passed their instruments to U2, symbolically passing the torch to the band that would soon occupy their No. 1 spot. Jay Z at Summer Jam (2001).
