Ill at Ease is the third full-length studio album by the Australian hard rock/alternative metal band The Mark of Cain. It was released in 1995 by Australian label rooArt and produced by Henry Rollins. First Time" and "LMA" were released as singles from the album. The Contender", "Interloper", "You Let Me Down", "Hindsight" and "Pointman" were remixed for release on the following album Rock and Roll.
This album is a stone cold killer. One of the best albums to come out of Australia by a country mile. The guitar sound John Scott produces has an incredible flavoured sound. John's brother Kim's bass sound reminds me of Godflesh at their nastiest. Aaron Hewson does an excellent job on drums and I much prefered him to John Stanier personally but regardless Stanier fills the spot nicely nowa days. Henry Rollins produced the album but essentially this is Mark Of Cain live in a studio. it captures their live sound & performance beautifully. Australia doesn't need "big". Australia doesn't need "big" rock'n'roll acts touring when these guys are around that's for sure. This album quite simply blows bands like Tool, Nirvana, Ministry, Kings Of Leon, Soundgarden, QOTSA, Faith No More etc etc etc out of the water! If you like Rock, Punk, Alternative or just plain good music bag this immediately. Also one of the best live bands around.
