In the deeply cynical 21st century, it's easy to look past Tim Robbins as a songwriter because he's the latest in a long line of actors who've "diversified" their careers by adding "musician" to their résumés. Robbins, however, has a long musical history. Robbins wrote all the songs here. The flavor is pure Americana, deeply influenced by Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle. Robbins is not a gifted vocalist by any stretch, which makes for rather strained listening at times, but he does write decent, if serviceable songs.
Music By, Lyrics By – Tim Robbins. Producer – Hal Willner.
Tim Robbins, performing before a disproportionately enthusiastic crowd with a group of top-table musicians, is this problem made flesh. Robbins’ first foray into music is a misstep compared to his successful acting career

Yep, this is the Tim Robbins - the American actor best known for his roles as Nuke in Bull Durham, Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption and as Dave Boyle in Mystic River. Robbins does have a musical pedigree - his father Gil was a member of the folk music group The Highwaymen, though he joined the outfit after they had a 1961 hit with, "Michael Row the Boat Ashore. Tim Robbins himself contributed songs to the 1992 musical comedy Bob Roberts. This song is a Robbins original and has no connection with the Roy Orbison number of the same title
