Hysteria is the fourth studio album by British synthpop band The Human League, released on 7 May 1984. Following the worldwide success of their 1981 album Dare, the band struggled to make a successful follow-up and the sessions for Hysteria were fraught with problems. The album name itself is taken from the problematic recording period. Producers Martin Rushent and Chris Thomas both left the project which would eventually be finished by producer Hugh Padgham.
The Human League released in 1982 a remix album, Love and Dancing, under the band name "The League Unlimited Orchestra" as a nod to Barry White's disco-era Love Unlimited Orchestra. If you have the Japanese import of the Holiday '80 EP on 12" vinyl, it has a large picture label of the original Human League, Oakey, Wright, Marsh and Ware. issued an album on cassette tape only called 'Music for Stowaways' for their first release, this was totally instrumental, and this is where the classic 'We Don't Need This (Fascist Groove Thang)' first appeared as an instrumental

Originally a minimal Post-Punk synthesiser-based group from Sheffield, UK, they became one of the most successful New Wave acts of the 80s. The only consistent band member is vocalist and songwriter Phil Oakey. The band's best known configuration was their 1980-1985 lineup of Phillip Oakey (vocals), Joanne Catherall (vocals), Susanne Sulley (vocals), Phillip Adrian Wright (keyboards), Jo Callis (guitar, keyboards) and Ian Burden (bass).
