15 Big Ones" is the twentieth studio album by The Beach Boys, their first studio album in three years and the first Brian Wilson produced album released by the band since "Pet Sounds", ten years earlier. Recorded January 30, 1976 to May 15, 1976. At one point during the recordings, it was decided that a double album was to be released: one album of oldies and another of original material. In the end, a compromise of both new originals and covers was decided

15 Big Ones is the 20th studio album by American rock group The Beach Boys released in July 1976. It comprises cover versions of rock and roll and rhythm and blues standards, along with a few new originals. Three singles were issued: a cover of Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" and the originals "It's .

Every Beach Boys album made in the 1970s was a comeback attempt. In the face of dwindling commercial returns, the group struggled earnestly in the first part of the decade to define itself outside the shadow of Brian Wilson. These attempts were abandoned after the success of 1974's greatest hits collection, Endless Summer, which established the group as the world's most successful oldies act. 1976 found the group attempting to maintain its revived fortunes in the recording studio as well as on the concert stage. The result of these sessions, 1976's 15 Big Ones, is a wreck of an album. The production is muddy and confused, the material largely comprised of uninspired covers and outtakes from earlier albums. Susie Cincinatti" was a 1970 b-side.

Thanks to the surprising success of the compilation Endless Summer, the Beach Boys entered the studio in 1975 for the first time in almost three years. The album that followed, 15 Big Ones, balanced covers of rock and doo wop standards with seven new Beach Boys songs (including five Brian Wilson compositions). Most of the covers are mistakes, part of a misguided attempt by the aging Beach Boys to recapture the energy of their youth

In August 1976, the Beach Boys delivered another summer anthem from their 15 Big Ones’album. It’s OK' made its US chart debut. The song made its US chart debut on 21 August 1976. The 15 Big Ones LP had made its chart debut as America celebrated the bicentennial of its independence, and what greater symbol of cultural pride did the nation possess than the Beach Boys? As they continued to ride the new wave of popularity that had started two years earlier with their Endless Summer compilation, the group now went backwards to go forwards. In other words, 15 Big Ones was comprised largely of new covers of old rock ‘n’ roll classics, including the lead single, a spirited take on Chuck Berry’s ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Music
