Prolific drug use has always raised an eyebrow or two, with most of it being exaggeration, conjecture, a few lies, and a willingness by a band to embrace the rumors. but in the case of Spacemen 3, I think it’s safe to say that what actually happened far surpasses the rumors, or hazy clouds of blue smoke that swirl around this band. of musical drug takers, where taking drugs actually seemed to be their full time job, aspiration, and eyes through which they saw the universe

For all that, the original appearance of Taking Drugs was in fact a bootleg on the notorious Father Yod imprint in 1990, later supplemented with contemporary outtakes and cuts for the Bomp reissue in 1994 and one further song for the Space Age version in 2000. The original seven tracks, dated January 1986 and the first recordings to feature Pete Bain on bass, are collectively known as the Northampton Demos, understandably named for the recording location in a studio outside said English city

14 Songs, 1 Hour 14 Minutes. The first seven songs on Taking Drugs to Make Music to Take Drugs To comprise the demo tape that secured Spacemen 3 their deal with Glass. Recorded in January of 1986, these are meaner, more subterranean versions of songs that were later re-recorded for the band’s debut, Sound of Confusion. Both Pete Kember and Jason Pierce later expressed the opinion that these early demos were superior to the official versions  . More By Spacemen 3. See All. Recurring.

I love this reissue. One of my favorite Spacemen 3 records just got a whole lot better
Alister
Why isn't this record considered a compilation? All but one I think are versions, bootlegs, or simply rehearsal versions of the ones the went into the four albums of the band.
Dorizius
Sounds great to my ears, it is a subjective question though. As the vinyl goes, it is thick, flat, smooth and with out flaws.
Dianaghma
Pressing quality feels like it's as good as it can be, given the source material. The source material is stellar. All around, great release! Couldn't be happier.
Ynonno
To those who have it, how does this release sound?
Daron
Excellent pressing. As others have said it is a pretty raw recording but it really is another example of Superior Viaduct doing a great job.
Mr_Mole
Listening now. The source/tape is not a sonic marvel but these are demos. What they lack in dynamic range they make up in performance. The pressing is remarkable and quiet. Funny liner notes by Byron Coley too.
Arcanefist
This is actually not a Father Yod release - just a pirate edition. The FY label only did the original 1990 vinyl.

Non colored vinyl reissue coming from Superior Viaduct (US) in Mayhttps://www.superiorviaduct.com/collections/spacemen-3/products/spacemen-3-taking-drugs-to-make-music-to-take-drugs-to-2xlp

The S3 Superior Viaduct reissues are being trademarked and licensed from Space Age, so I'm not sure if those are proper artist sanctioned reissues, given the ties to Space Age.
Small Black
Yeah Superior Viaduct once again doing it proper, like the pro's they are.

Prolific drug use has always raised an eyebrow or two, with most of it being exaggeration, conjecture, a few lies, and a willingness by a band to embrace the rumors ... but in the case of Spacemen 3, I think it’s safe to say that what actually happened far surpasses the rumors, or hazy clouds of blue smoke that swirl around this band of musical drug takers, where taking drugs actually seemed to be their full time job, aspiration, and eyes through which they saw the universe. The album is as legendary as the band with the original seven tracks being laid down in 1986, and then known as the Northampton Demos. Additions were made in 1990, several other contemporary songs were added for the 1994 reissue, and all finally settled out for the 2000 Space Age version with the addition of one final number. Both publicly and in the book, Pete Kember [Sonic Boom] and Jason Pierce [Spaceman] have stated that they enjoy these versions of the songs much more than those that appeared on Sound Of Confusion. There’s an almost tribal feel to the music, containing more edges than we were treated to on the previous outings ... sounding almost like psychedelic punk, dripping with feedback, cutting, full of fire and energy. It’s strange, because if you grew up with the previously released songs, you’ll find these a bit difficult to recognize, and it’s not until the splendid seven minute mind-altering “It’s Alright” slips in under the door that you’re gonna feel at home, bathed in that warm comfort zone, one filled with smooth shifting innovative delight, sounding like some Motown number gone sideways into the ether.Review by Jenell Kesler
Simple
The best title for an album no question.

This, and Bullet Lavolta's "The Gun Didn't Know I Was Loaded".
