Granada is one of the main references of flamenco in Spain, specially Sacromonte caves. This gypsy quarter is epicenter fo what is called as jondura and el duende. The zambra, the typical flamenco party is originated in this quarter during the 16th century, related with the morisco wedding ceremony. Flamenco was declared Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2010 Cultural Ethnological Intangible Heritage in Andalucia. Casa del Arte Flamenco is located in the city of Granada only a few meters away from the Plaza Nueva. Cuevas Los Tarantos is located in a former cave home in the Sacromonte quarter. Los Jardines de Zoraya.

Casa del Arte Flamenco is located in the city of Granada only a few meters away from the Plaza Nueva. Casa del Arte flamenco hosts two nightly flamenco performances with regionally and nationally recognized artists. The show of approximately one hour features vocals, guitar and dance with four performers covering a range of flamenco styles

In 1922 they organised a competition for unknown flamenco musicians from the countryside who had never entered a Café Cantante. The purists saw Flamenco tightly connected to the villages in the countryside.

El Concurso del Cante Jondo (Contest of the Deep Song) was a well-known celebration of the art of flamenco, its music, song, and dance, held in Granada, Spain, on Corpus Christi, the 13th and 14 June 1922. At conception the idea of composer Manuel de Falla, its organizating activities enjoyed early and strong support from poet Federico García Lorca. The two outdoor, evening events included amateur flamenco performers, as well as revered professionals.

Manolo Caracol came from an exalted Gypsy dynasty which to this day remains legendary in the arenas of both flamenco and bullfighting. Born in Seville in 1909, it is commonly believed that his ancestral lineage included both El Planeta and El Fillo. Caracol won the prestigious first prize at the Cante Jondo Competition (in 1922) at the age of only 13. During the Spanish Civil War he worked in theaters to survive. Caracol claimed his style of singing was unique. He is remembered for his capacity to evoke overwhelming passions from his listeners.

Singers like Luis de Córdoba, Enrique Morente or Mayte Martín started to rescue their repertoire, recording the songs they had created or developed. A new generations of singers claim their influence. Critics like Antonio Ortega or Ortiz Nuevo have also vindicated the artists of the ópera flamenca period. There are over 50 different palos flamenco, although some are rarely performed. Some of the forms are sung unaccompanied, while others usually have guitar or other accompaniment. Cante flamenco can be categorized in a number of ways. First, a cante may be categorized according to whether it follows a strict rhythmic pattern ( compas ) or follows a free rhythm ( libre ).

Carcelero by Manolo Caracol & The Flamenco Group Los Canasteros. However, in the first stage of his career, he made a living singing mostly at private parties, which at the time, were, together with cafés, the usual stages for flamenco artists. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), he started touring with theatre companies as: owing to the war, private parties were difficult to find.
