Manchester-based illustrator, musician John Powell-Jones returns to the excellent Sacred Tapes, combining both of his passions on this intriguing, ridiculously limited voodoo-styled character head and tape combination.
Into The Abyss follows up Powell-Jones's previous recording Abyss released in February 2015 (all on Sacred Tapes). Both recordings were created by Powell-Jones as an element within larger exhibitions of his graphic art. Into The Abyss – the recording and exhibition – will be on show at the 38b space in Peckham, South East London on 10–12th July. Powell-Jones says about Into The Abyss: "The tracks accompany an exhibition of some new work based around three characters. I’ve made resin casts of each of the characters and the clown has been cast as an incense head
Into The Abyss' is the follow up to John Powell-Jones' february release 'Abyss' and like its predecessor this collection of tracks is tied in with an exhibition of his visual art work. The exhibition is based around the creation of three characters which Powell-Jones has resin cast and hand painted. Tormentor and Pyre, the two tracks that make up the tape, show a continued progression in Powell-Jones musical work with both being much more heavily driven by drum machines introduced along side his signature dark and gritty, noise ridden sounds.
