Complete your Photek collection. An interesting feature of the CD versions of this, and the single Hidden Camera, is that both seem to feature a vinyl sound effect at the beginning. I don't think for a minute that either CD is a vinyl rip, but it just seems that the label decided they wanted the CD to sound a bit like it.
Modus Operandi (CD, Album). Astralwerks, Science. What makes this my favourite Drum and Bass album is not only the genius drum programming, but the restraint shown in production. Unlike some other D&B LPs, it's not just a collection of dance tracks swamped by brutal bass. It changes pace and mood.
Photek's debut album, MODUS OPERANDI, blew open the doors of drum & bass, with its crisp production and experimental nature. Kicking off with the jazzy "The Hidden Camera" (reprised from the EP of the same name), he shows off his skills at creating moods.

So it is not fat-fetched to say Rupert Parkes (Photek) bridges both time and space on his full-length debut. He crafts drum & bass patterns of different tonal qualities and layers them with breaks of such rhythmic complexity that it subtly entrances the listener. Realizing that music's backbone is the beat, Parkes works everything off it, varying the tones of his percussion and using sampled sounds to create rhythm, all of it accented with ambient washes or spacey synth fills.
